Tecno is breaking new ground with its first flip-style foldable phone, the Tecno Phantom V Flip, introduced at the “Perfect in Pocket” Nigerian launch event. Priced at ₦569,000, this device is making waves as a budget-friendly option, with a striking design, vivid colour options and functional features to provide an uncompromised user experience.
Tecno Phantom V Flip's Design & Display
The Phantom V Flip is equipped with a small 1.32-inch circular OLED external screen incorporated into its camera array. This design, while giving the phone a distinct look reminiscent of a smartwatch, restricts the screen's functionality to displaying widgets, notifications, and Tecno’s array of memojis and digital pets. Internally, users are greeted by a 6.9-inch foldable screen, boasting a 1080x2640 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an elongated 22:9 aspect ratio. The phone supports Flex Mode, allowing for versatile usage in half-folded positions.
Colours
The Phantom V Flip is available in two captivating colour variants – Mystic Dawn (a shade of purple) and Iconic Black. Both variants are adorned with lychee-pattern leather material, which is not only tactilely pleasing but also practical, resisting fingerprints and concealing minor scratches, a marked improvement over the faux leather used in Tecno’s previous models. This attention to material and colour enhances the device's overall appeal, providing users with both style and substance.
What are the Phantom V flip's Hardware & Specifications?
Under the hood, the Phantom V Flip houses a MediaTek Dimensity 8050 SoC, coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, supporting 45W charging. The camera system comprises a 64MP primary rear camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP inner selfie camera. Despite these specifications, the phone’s top-heavy design when unfolded and the placement of the camera array and power button warrant consideration.
Software Updates & Security
Tecno’s history with software updates raises concerns about the Phantom V Flip’s long-term viability. The company has assured users of two major Android updates over two years and three years of security updates. However, consistent and timely delivery of these updates is pivotal for maintaining user safety and trust, given the essential role of smartphones in our digital lives.
Price & Availability
With an introductory price of ₦569,000 in Nigeria, the Phantom V Flip offers an accessible entry into the foldable phone market. The device stands as a competitive option amidst rivals priced over ₦1,000,000 but faces challenges from other budget-friendly alternatives such as the Moto Razr 2023. While not officially released in the US, Tecno plans to launch the Phantom V Flip in several other markets, broadening its availability.
Conclusion
The Tecno Phantom V Flip emerges as a compelling budget option in the foldable phone segment, balancing distinctive design, vivid colours, and practical features. Its competitive pricing makes it an attractive choice for those looking to experience foldable technology. However, Tecno's adherence to software update commitments and the device’s market availability will be determining factors in its overall success and adoption. if you'd like to purchase the Tecno V Flip you can get it Ogabassey online store
